Temporal Object Role Modelling

چکیده

We present a temporal object model capable of representing object lifespans and also the history of their roles and associations. We adopt an approach of temporal generalisation rather than temporal extension in which a model in its entirety is given a temporal semantics through an orthogonal generalisation of all model concepts { including the lifespan of object roles themselves and constraints over these roles. The model is based on the generic object data model OM and its algebra has been generalised into a full temporal algebra over object roles.

Conceptual Modelling Patterns for Roles

Roles are meant to capture dynamic and temporal aspects of realworld objects. The role concept has been used with many semantic meanings: dynamic class, aspect, perspective, interface or mode. This paper identifies common semantics of different role models found in the literature. Moreover, it presents a set of conceptual modelling patterns for the role concept that include both the static and ...

Conceptual Modeling and the Quality of Ontologies: A Comparison between Object-Role Modeling and the Object Paradigm

Ontologies are key enablers for sharing precise and machine-understandable semantics among different applications and parties. Yet, for ontologies to meet these expectations, their quality must be of a good standard. The quality of an ontology is strongly based on the design method employed. This paper addresses the design problems related to the modelling of ontologies, with specific concentra...

Design Patterns for Spatio-temporal Processes

Time is an essential dimension to analyse and understand real-world evolution. Although many temporal extensions to spatial models have been proposed, there is still a need to define modelling methods to describe and represent real-world phenomena. This paper presents a set of design patterns modelling spatio-temporal processes expressed in an object-relationship data model. The proposed framew...

Modelling Spatiotemporal Information: The Spatiotemporal Object Model

Many of the data-models developed for temporal databases are extensions of existing non-temporal models. However, to create models which complies as much as possible with the behaviour of phenomena in the real world, we have suggested using an ontological approach using conceptual modelling techniques. The spatiotemporal object model (STOM) introduced in this article is developed using object-o...
